Growing grapes at the Woolshed

At the Woolshed Vineyard in Marlborough, it is the very beginning of flowering season. Right now these mini bunches are in the ‘floret’ stage. The viticulturists are hoping for hot and dry weather over the next month, during which the caps will blow off the top of the florets, allowing the wind to fertilise the flowers beneath. In a month’s time, the little grape berries will have developed, and the viticulturists will get their first indicators of what the 2018 vintage yield will look like.
