Top 100 & 90 Points Wine Spectator

Mud House has broken new ground in Wine Spectator magazine, with the 2014 Mud House Central Otago Pinot Noir featuring in the Top 100 of 2016. It received 90 points in the October edition of Wine Spectator, and is one of only three New Zealand wines to feature in this exclusive listing. The lists have been compiled every year since 1988.

General Manager for Accolade Wines New Zealand Jack Glover said because Wine Spectator magazine is the most influential endorsement in the United States, this was a great opportunity for the brand to get its name out there amongst the best wine names in the world.

“We are all thrilled at Mud House to see our wine there. It is a feather in the cap and great exposure for our brand in New Zealand’s largest wine market,” he said.

Stephanie Hahn, Senior Brand Manager for Accolade US, said Mud House is a wine enjoyed by consumers in the US. “Our Mud House wines have been garnering praise since entering the US market; now to be part of Wine Spectator’s Top 100 wines for 2016 is an honour indeed!” she said.

Sourced from the Claim 431 Vineyard in Central Otago, Mud House winemaker Cleighten Cornelius said the vintage of 2014 was outstanding.

“We picked the fruit slightly early to maximise the flavour profile, where floral notes and vibrancy took preference. The whole bunch portion during ferment delivered texture and layered tannins,” said Cleighten.

This Pinot Noir boasts aromas of red cherry and raspberry, combined with vibrant spice and a hint of oak. Bold fruit flavours fill the front palate, and there is enough acid to give lovely structure, punctuated by the polished fruit and oak tannins.

Senior editor and senior tasting coordinator for Wine Spectator MaryAnn Worobiec, described this Pinot Noir as having good intensity and a velvety texture. “It is fleshy and appealing, with vibrant cherry and plum notes that have nutmeg and black tea flavours lingering on the finish,” she said.
