OUR REGIONS
MARLBOROUGH
Marlborough is the northernmost growing region in the South Island and is best known for its Sauvignon Blanc. The diurnal temperatures produce wines with exceptional flavour and acid.
WHAT MAKES MARLBOROUGH UNIQUE
Soil Conditions
A mix of variety alluvial free-draining soils to a more clay/ loam soil as found in the Southern Hills or a silt/loam combination as located nearer to Cloudy Bay and the sea.
Climate
Marlborough also has relatively cool climate conditions, providing the grapes with a long slow, flavour-intensifying ripening period.
Location
Perched on the east coast of New Zealand’s South Island, Marlborough flaunts approx. 23,600 hectares of vine plantings, the majority of these are in the Wairau and Awatere Valleys.
Varietals
Marlborough is known best for its fine Sauvignon Blanc, but it also grows great Pinot Noir.
OUR VINEYARDS
THE WOOLSHED VINEYARD
Situated west of Blenheim in the shelter of a steep sided triangular hill called the 'Delta'. This feature protects the vineyard from the frosts in spring and the different aspects of the slope produce fruit which makes for exciting blending options. Named after the original Woolshed building which is now our vineyard office and trade hosting facility, fruit from this vineyard goes into our Single Vineyard Woolshed Sauvignon Blanc, Single Vineyard Dambuster Pinot Noir and our Mud House Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc.

CENTRAL OTAGO
Central Otago, located in New Zealand’s South Island, is the world’s highest and most southerly wine-growing region. Ringed by snow-capped mountains, it has breathtakingly beautiful scenery with crystal clear lakes shining blue, to fast-flowing rivers and deep gorges. The terrain is often rugged and undulating but is absolutely stunning in its diversity and splendour.

Soil Conditions
Mostly glacially derived soils, with rich deposits of mica and schist.
Climate
The inland mountainous location provides a semi-continental climate with very cold winters, hot summers, cool nighttime temperatures and very low rainfall.

80% of planting are Pinot Noir. Also has a variety of well-regarded cool climate white wines including Riesling, Pinot Gris and Chardonnay.

CLAIM 431 VINEYARD
Long growing season and summer heat deliver beautiful flavours wrapped in bright pure red and dark fruit aromas.
Once a gold-mining region, Bendigo is framed by ancient, dry hills and fanned by westerly winds. Fruit from this vineyard is used to create Mud House Single Vineyard Claim 431 Vineyard Central Otago Pinot Noir and Mud House Central Otago Pinot Noir.

THE WAIPARA VALLEY
Nestled between the hills of North Canterbury, the Waipara Valley offers an exciting blend of soils and climate with a backdrop of natural, untouched beauty. The region is known for crafting refreshing, crisp, aromatic whites.
WHAT MAKES WAIPARA VALLEY UNIQUE
Soil Conditions
Heavy clay soils, gravel and limestone – often in one big mix. Some vineyards are planted on river terraces.
Climate
Protected by two mountain ranges allowing warm, north-westerly foehn winds to come through and raise the temperature of the growing region.
Location
Just an hour from Christchurch. Known for being the wine region with the longest hang time in the country despite its maritime climate and location.
Varietals
Known for its excellent Riesling and Pinot Noir which together make up over half of the plantings
OUR VINEYARDS
THE HOME BLOCK VINEYARD
The gravelly soils of this vineyard enhance the rich and spicy tropical characters of our aromatic wines. This vineyard boasts some of the oldest Pinot Gris vines in the region, with the original planting still on its own roots. The grapes from the Home Block are hand-harvested and go into our Mud House Single Vineyard Pinot Gris. The Home Block was the original farmer’s house and has retained its name since converting to vines over 20 years ago.
OUR VINEYARDS
THE MOUND VINEYARD
The Mound vineyard is named after a geographical mound adjacent to the vineyard. It offers spectacular views down to the river bed and across to the stunning Teviotdale Hills to the northeast. In 2010 the grapes from this block were used in the inaugural ‘Riesling Challenge’ winemaking competition involving one harvest and 12 winemaker’s interpretation of this noble grape. We live in the hope that we will repeat this adventure in the future. In the meantime, grapes from this vineyard are used to make our Single Vineyard Riesling.
